Ann Reid

Ann Reid was born on July 9, 1928, in Aberdeen, Mississippi to Irene Rush and Hubert Ewing. She was the oldest of three children, her siblings are Leerene Williams and Hazel Rush. During her teenage years, she moved from Aberdeen to East St. Louis, Illinois. She was raised by her loving Uncle Frank & Aunt Adella Moore (Affectionately known as Aunt Honey). She also maintained close ties with her large extended family that remained in Mississippi.While living in East St. Louis she met the love of her life, Columbus Reid. As an extension of their marital union, they had 10 children. The children are Lavoy” Zaki” (Brady), Donald (Helen), Robert (Vernita), Lamont (Frances), Jackie-Deceased (Jacquelyn), Cathy (Cedric), Terry (Brenda), Tammy (Robert), Steven (Benita), Anthony (Rita). She had 51 grandchildren, 100 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren.The family resided on E street in the South End section of East St. Louis which was a very close-knitted community of which the Reid family was an integral part of the neighborhood. While living on E street she joined Pilgrim Baptist Church and accepted Christ as her Savior. She was a faithful member of Pilgrim Baptist Church until she transitioned from this life. The family eventually relocated to the Jones Park area of East St. Louis and resided on North 35th street. She had a passion for serving those that were less fortunate in her community as well as donating to organizations that serve the less fortunate around the world.She loved being a stay-at-home mother. One of her greatest characteristics was providing a loving and caring environment for family and friends. She emphasized the importance of education to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Affectionately known as “Big Momma”, she loved having her family around her during various holiday seasons of which Christmas was her favorite. She also looked forward to having family reunions. She enjoyed preparing delicious meals for her family and extended family. One of her favorite sayings was “Go in there and get you something to eat”. She loved listening to her gospel music. Her favorite scripture was II Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award me on that day-and not only me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing”.With a caring heart to the end, she always maintained a positive outlook on life and will truly be missed by all that she touched, but will never be forgotten. Her spirit of love and kindness will live on through future generations.
