Darlean Yerger-Lasley was born on January 27, 1925 to the union of Marcus and Mittie Yerger in Hope, Arkansas. She was the 2nd oldest of three children. Her parents, Marcus and Mittie, husband, Donivan C. Lasley, siblings, Grady Yerger, Mable McNeese, and daughter, Linda Jones preceded her death.
Darlean graduated at Yerger High School in Hope, Arkansas. (The school was named after her family). When her parents and siblings moved to East St. Louis, IL. in 1945. Darlean professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized under the leadership of Pastor Bernard B. Haney at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and was active in many ministries throughout her 73 years as a member.
Darlean was united in holy matrimony to Donivan C. Lasley in 1949. To this union three children were born, two daughters Linda Jones, (proceeded her in death), Gail Perkins, and one son, Donivan M. Lasley. Darlean worked as a seamstress for many years before retiring and devoting her time as a homemaker. While raising her family and taking on other tasks, Darlean managed to earn her Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work at Southern Illinois University of Edwardsville. Darlean loved photography, gardening, sewing, bowling and shopping in her favorite store. (T.J. Max). She loved taking trips back to her home town of Hope, Arkansas visiting relatives. Darlean loved her grandchildren dearly and helped rear them into adulthood. She was a caring person, loved and admired by many. Her Christian life was as beautiful as the flowers she loved so well and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all those who knew her.
On Wednesday, February 7, 2018, Darlean Lasley quietly departed this life in the comfort of her daughter’s home surrounded by her dedicated family.
Darlean leaves to cherish her loving memory; daughter, Gail Perkins, Alorton, IL, son, Donivan M. Lasley, East St. Louis, IL, grandchildren; Dawn Lasley, Jansen (Erica) Perkins, Pascha (Montell) Perkins, Dyana Perkins, Dyon Perkins, Tanya (Edward) Granger, Mickel Perkins, Darrius (Ashley) Lasley, Danielle (Ricardo) Steward, Darian Jones, Tierra (Ray) Gibbs and Terrence Lasley. 33 great- grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
