Tamika Nicole Thornton, affectionately known as “Meka”, was born December 29, 1984 in St. Louis, Missouri to the union of Eric G. Thornton and Gail Yvette Thornton. She was the youngest of three daughters in this family. She was preceded in death by her daughter C’mia Thomas, her father, Eric Thornton, paternal grandparents Eloyd and Erma Thornton and Maternal grandfather Warren Gaddis.
Tamika received her education in both East St Louis School District 189 and St Louis County Public Schools.
She attended Dunbar Elementary. Northview Elementary, Jennings Junior High, Clark Junior High and graduated from East St Louis Senior High School in June of 2003.
As a young child, Tamika confessed hope in Christ was baptized by Reverend Derrick Jackson when Mt. Pisgah was located at 1301 Summitt Avenue. During her childhood and teenage years she was a active member of the Children’s/Youth choirs and moved on to sing in the Young Adult choir. She continued her Christian training by participating in the New Salem District Baptist Youth Fellowship (B.Y.F) Choir and attended several of the Baptist General State Conventions of Illinois.
Tamika became a mother to her first daughter, Ms. C’mia Yvette Thomas on March 5,2004. She was so excited and loved her dearly. She went on to spread her love to Le’Shea Nicole Thomas on June 17, 2005 and Phoenix Rhein Travis on September 14, 2012. She loved her “Queens”with her whole heart.
Tamika held multiple jobs throughout the years, but her true passion was law enforcement as she would say: “Just know I carry that metal” Tamika was preparing to register at Lindenwood University this coming spring semester to finish her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.
Tamika never met a stranger! she was a very outgoing and lovable person. Always the life of the party, she was always selfie ready. She was loved by many and will be extremely missed by everyone.
Tamika departed this life Friday, January 20, 2017. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.
