Tommie L. Shields was born May 11, 1948 in Peoria, IL. to George D. Shields and Hazel Nelson. He was preceded in death by both parents, one brother; Darrell Nelson and one sister, Louise “Bonnie” Young.
He attended Neelyville School District and worked as a farmer until Joining the U.S. Marines. After serving his country, Tommie came home and was employed by Sunset Gardens of Memory Cemetery in Millstadt, IL.
Tommie was a people person and was loved by many. He was a hard worker and didn’t mind getting his hands dirty. Tommie could be found on 18th St. handing out clothes and anything that he had to help someone else. Many knew him from picking up cans. He was always willing to work to make ends meet.
Tommie loved his family and friends and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Every moment spent with Tommie was a memorable and special event.
Tommie leaves to cherish his loving memories his brothers; Albert (Addie) Nelson, Paul Nelson, Carl Nelson and David Nelson. Five sisters; Gloria Timberlake, Eddie Mae Sturp, Phyllis Johnson, Ruby Carolyn Young and Rose Marie Racheal Willis. A special friend Linda Shaw of Centreville, Il. and two God daughters; Ashley Parker of Centreville, IL. and Evelyn “Bay-Bay” Little of E. St. Louis, IL. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
